A word on Motivation and Progress

"I wish I had the motivation" "I just don't feel motivated" "I'll be more motivated starting next year"

Does that sound like you?? Have you heard those words before??

The secret is... motivation comes from the doing.

The concept of "feeling motivated" is a bit of a lie. Sure, you can read a quote or watch a documentary or look at pictures of Chris Hemsworth and feel a sudden urge to get outside, get to the gym, start a gratitude journal, launch a business, buy a house, lose 10kg, build your strength, run a marathon, start yoga... but this is a short-lived urged unless you actually start *doing* it.

Progress does not come from LUCK, nor an inhumane innate ability to maintain motivation in the face of adversity, changing circumstances, stressful situations, and whatever is thrown in front of you.

Progress comes from consistently adhering to habits that eventually allow you to fufill a bigger goal.

If your wish/goal/want is to "get fitter", then look at what it will take to get there: consistent exercise, increased general activity, incorporating various forms of movement in to your training routine. So, instead of relying on some miraculous wave of motivation to wash over you out of nowhere and immediately get you pumped to sign up to a gym, instead start to build your daily and weekly routine around consistent habits. These habits form the basis of your ongoing progress, and remain a strong part of your routine whether or not you're motivated.

Nut out your goal. Figure out what it will take to get there. Commit to those habits day in, day out for the next year and you'll see exactly what I mean xx
