3 TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR BARBELL SQUAT IN 5 SECONDS

Have you been struggling to hit depth in your squat? Do you constantly feel like you’re ‘stuck’ from going any lower down in to range? Do you find yourself leaning forward without ‘sinking’ in to your hips? Do you get nervous about your ability to drive the weight up from the floor from the bottom?

Read below for 3 SUPER QUICK tips to help improve the quality of your squat so you can get deeper, lift heavier, and overall make it STRONGER

  1. ELEVATE YOUR HEELS

Place two 1-inch plates underneath each of your heels. This helps to improve limited ankle mobility, which might be preventing you from hitting depth in your squat.

2. TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF

“You can’t shoot a cannonball out of a canoe”. AKA, your capacity for POWER and STRENGTH is limited when you’re on n unstable surface! Taking your shoes off creates a flat, stable surface that you can drive up from. Your squishy running shoes are built to absorb impact, which is the opposite of what we want when we’re trying to get maximal power through the legs.

3. LEARN TO BREATHE PROPERLY

Use your breathing to brace and set your core. Take a breath in, hold your breath while you lower to the hole of the squat, and as you drive up take a quick and forced exhale at the top of the rep. You are using the intra-abdominal pressure you’re creating to mimic the effect of a lifting belt; increase the pressure, squat better.

And there you have it!
